Over the August Bank Holiday Weekend Mike and Chris Jenkins will be attempting to paddle the length of the Grand Union Canal from Birmingham to London, raising money for MacMillan Cancer Support.
The brothers were inspired to this effort by the recent illness of their mother. In their own words:- “For the last year our Mum has been having treatment for Bowel cancer and thankfully the outlook seems very positive. Over the past twelve months she has had lots of support from friends, family and work colleagues and we are all very grateful for that. However, sadly, there are many people suffering from similar conditions who do not have the same level of support, which is why my brother and I are trying to raise as much money as possible for Macmillan Nurses, a charity who support just such people. “
The lads have been hard at work over the summer months training for the event to ensure that they are at peak fitness. They have been helped by South West Herts Narrowboat Project which has given them the use of its base on the Grand Union at Hunton Bridge.
Boatshed Grand Union is very pleased to able to support this marathon world record attempt by providing the canoe and other support. If you would like to support MacMillan Cancer Support through the efforts of Mike and Chris, please donate at their website: http://www.justgiving.com/paddleaid/
