The BMC engine, which was completely rebuilt in 2002, is housed in the utility room forward of the boatman's cabin and offset to one side. The drive utilises a shaft with two universal joints under the cabin floor. While unusual on narrowboats, this is a common and proven system on Dutch barges.
It certainly makes the boat even more roomy.
