Braunston Rally and Canal Festival 2015
If you missed Boatshed Jan at Stoke Bruerne recently come along to the historic boat rally at Braunston on 27th and 28th June and look out for her tugboat Storm (pictured below).
This weekend is the 12th Braunston Narrowboat Rally which is the UK’s largest working narrowboats gathering. Over 80 historic boats gather and take part in parades with commentary.
You can also expect the usual boat festival fun, including a real ale beer tent, exhibitors, traders and waterways artists, live music and fast food for sale. There will also be Morris dancing, a theatrical presentation and an open air Songs of Praise church service on Sunday. All profits go to canal and local causes.
Jan is a fan of historic boats; she owns two narrowboat tugs and lives on one of them. She is also an instructor with Canal Experience, offering a variety of training options such as the core RYA Helmsman’s Course or The Coalboat Experience. She has previously helped out on the coal boats sometimes, working with The Candlebridge Carrying Company on the Grand Union.
In fact Jan’s love of boats is evident in almost every aspect of her life. She is also a singer-songwriter and author and boats and canals feature regularly in all of her creative work. She has written a series of children’s books entitled ‘The Adventures of Pirate’ which are a great introduction for children who are about to experience narrowboating for the first time. Samples of her songs can be heard on her website http://www.janul.com
You are usually likely to see Jan around on the towpath in London or Hertfordshire as she chats to Grand Union boaters and helps people to buy and sell their canal boats. So if you're in Braunston this weekend Jan would be happy to chat about buying or selling a boat.
