Broker's Comments
The Catalina 28 explains why Catalina has built more sailboats than any other American boatbuilder. She was Cruising World's Boat of the Year in 1996 and you can see why. This versatile sloop is easy to handle, performs well and is easy to look after. The high-volume interior has more space than many 32-foot boats however they have managed to retain pleasing lines and still have a roomy cockpit.
Both on deck and below she is well thought out and feels like a much larger boat. The cockpit is comfortable and the step through transom (there is a seat stored in the locker) makes boarding over the stern or swimming easy and the ladder is more than substantial. Wheel steering on a pedestal with instruments accessible and all lines leading aft enable safe short handed sailing but there is plenty of space for family and friends to sail or stay aboard
Down below she is light, clean and airy but with enough embellishments to make her feel comfortable as well as practical. This particular example has really had good knowledgeable and very careful owners and it shows. She has been lightly used but always kept in commission, comes ashore every winter for maintenance and is fully equipped and ready to sail away now.
