If you know the Rival 34 then you need no more words from me but, if you don't and are seeking a genuine go anywhere yacht, in fairly close to original spec but with an updated engine and fairly recent sails and rigging, you should come and see her.
My first impression as I stepped aboard to photograph her today, with a chill 2nd February wind and slight drizzle turning to sleet, was ah, a proper yacht at last! Her stiffness underfoot and wide side decks were a pleasure to traverse without having to mind my step or hang on - no slipping and sliding here (and I know we were only in the marina but you wouldn't believe some of the more modern offerings). Sliding back the hatch, the first impression is of massive strength afforded by that signature keyhole bulkhead - you just know she'd survive a knock down in the Southern Ocean! Traditional joinery and an interior layout which has proved itself for nigh on a century is thoroughly practical and then there came the delight of an easily accessed motor for routine servicing and checks, and the 3GM motor looks pristine for its age. Allow a bit for instrument upgrades, perhaps some soft furnishings and if you're really picky a hull polish and or repaint - but she could be sailed just as she is.
UPDATE 24/03/15 This yacht is now ashore in our yard at Neyland.
