Meet Jan: She loves boats!
We are happy to welcome a new member to the Boatshed team this year. Jan Knox has been helping us out at Boatshed Grand Union and has just taken over the Boatshed London brokerage.
I got the chance to get to know her at the recent Boatshed annual conference and her love of boats is evident in almost every aspect of her life.
She owns two narrowboat tugs and lives on one of them. She is a professional canal skipper with an MCA Boatmasters Licence (BML) .She is also an instructor with Canal Experience, offering a variety of training options such as the core RYA Helmsman’s Course or The Coalboat Experience. She also helps out on the coal boats sometimes, working with The Candlebridge Carrying Company on the Grand Union.
Jan is a singer-songwriter and author, and her love of narrowboat culture is apparent throughout her creative work. Hers books, (available on Amazon) offer boaty recipes and tales of her narrowboat life. She has also written a series of children’s books entitled ‘The Adventures of Pirate’ which are a great introduction for children who are about to experience narrowboating for the first time. She has written songs and poetry from the age of 12 and has recently released a CD called Still Water Runs Deep. You can hear a sample on her website Janul.com.
I’ve lived on the canals for twelve years and I’ve not met many people who show so much enthusiasm for the waterways. You are likely to see Jan on the towpath in London, or around the Thames marinas as she gets to know London boaters this year, helping people to buy and sell their boats.
If you have a boat for sale, no matter where you are, it is likely that there is a Boatshed broker near you: As well as Jan with Boatshed London we also have Boatshed Grand Union and Boatshed Inland. Boats are advertised on websites all over the world as Boatshed is an international group. We offer a local hands-on service with global reach. See all our offices listed here. Find a boat broker.
